Hey everyone! 2013 is rolling along well. I've limited my schedule a bit as I'll be traveling a bunch this summer, but there will be many chances to see me play. And I'm always looking to do more house concerts, so if you'd like to host an evening of music and song, please just reply to this email and I'd be happy to work with you on bringing a private, unique show to your living room (or den, or rumpus room, or porch).

Upcoming schedule highlights:

=======

Acoustic show, Wednesday, May 22, 9 pm: I'm playing a solo gig with a few guests, as the featured artist at Christine Santelli's great songwriters' night at The Path Cafe, 131 Christopher St (just west of Hudson). No cover!

Kerrville Folk Festival: I'll be going down around the 29th and staying til June 2; I'll be pitching my tent at Camp Coho, and if you want to hang out, come find me!!

Playing guitar and mandolin for Bev Grant at People's Music Summer Gathering, June 7:Bev is a true folk and radical legend, who's been featured on "Best Of Broadside", was directly involved in the formation of the national women's liberation movement starting in 1968, and continues to write and perform edgy, groundbreaking material that isn't afraid to tell the truth. I am honored to be accompanying Bev at the People's Music Summer Gathering in Epworth, New York, opening for the incredible Evan Greer.

Two-Day Mini-Folk-Fest! June 21 and 22, NYC:

With my pals at the The Songwriters' Exchange of Greenwich Village, we're pleased to be working with Make Music New York and NYC Parks to present day one of our yearly Mini-Folk-Fest, at Riverside Park at 110th St, June 21 from 3-10 pm. 15 songwriters and the Hudson River!

Day 2 will take place at the DeColores Yard on East 8th St just east of Avenue B. Details TBA, but expect at least some folks from the previous day and artists in-the-round.

Late-night rock at Rockwood Music Hall, July 12, 1 am: Featuring the incredible Chris Kelly, we'll be hosting a bunch of our friends with a musical costume party of sorts. Sound intriguing? It will be lovely madness.

Huntington Folk Festival, July 20: I'm honored to be part of the acoustic lineup in Heckscher Park along with my pals in Scott Wolfson and Other Heroes. The event's not been fully lined up yet, but save the date.

Hey everyone! I'm recently returned from a great time at the Folk Alliance Conference up in Toronto, where I made many new pals and solidified some lovely musical friendships. I've been really inspired by all this great music I'm exposed to and hope to be ready for a new studio recording this summer. So! My next New York show is at the Living Room this Thursday, March 7, at 7 pm sharp. There's word I might have some industry folk in the audience, so it would be fabulous if you could help me fill every seat!!

I'll be joined by my friends Karyn Oliver and Chris Kelly, and I'll be debuting one or two brand-new songs. It's most likely my final show at the Living Room, which is closing at the end of the month. (They will reopen sometime this year, but they're not sure when.) The Living Room is located at 154 Ludlow Street, just down the street from Katz's Deli (how convenient!!). And did I mention it's free? (The show, not Katz's.)

Lastly, I am tickled pink to be back on the Roots Music Reports Charts this week alongside my friends Brad Cole and Oli Rockberger! Scroll to the bottom to see our names alongside Pete Seeger, Derek and the Dominoes, and other luminaries... https://www.rootsmusicreport.com/index.php?page=statechart&state=NY

That's about it for now. Lots of house concerts and benefit shows coming up. Plus a return to Spike Hill for the Righteous Devils next week, March 13 at 11pm. Rock!

Hi y'all! Couple o' pieces of news:

*Folk Alliance up in Toronto is just a few weeks away. I'll be driving up with my pal Jesse Terry, and we're gonna hang with many great friends from the folk scene near and far. If you are attending, I hope to spend some time with ya! Let me know where you're hanging, too. I posted my Folk Alliance schedule below.

*There's a bunch of recent videos from my record release on my YouTube page. Also, I performed some songs live in Studio A at WFUV-FM at the end of 2012, for the amazing John Platt - here's a link to those as well!!

*If you're in New York this weekend, I am performing TWICE at Rockwood Music Hall this Sunday, Feb 10 - at 3pm in Rockwood 1, playing guitar with my pal Ben Rabb, and then at 11:30 pm at Rockwood 2, it's an Anti-Grammy Party with the Righteous Devils, my blatantly uncommercial power-rock-trio.

The Rockwood(s) are at 196 Allen Street, just south of Houston. Both are FREE! Do it!

No matter what, hope to see ya and play for ya soon. I'm going to be doing a bunch of house concerts this spring, too - so make sure you reach out if you'd like a certain handsome troubadour gracing your living room!

Woohoo!  I just became an official D'Addario artist!  D'Addario makes the BEST strings, and I've been using them since I was ten (no joke!!).  It's a longtime dream of mine...I couldn't be more amped!!

I'll be going up to Canada in a few weeks to attend Folk Alliance, so I'm hoping more good stuff will come from that...at the very least, I'll be jamming with many of my friends and exploring Maple leaf country...stay in touch for my showcase schedule, which I'll post later in the week.

Ok!  Now that the news is done, here's a couple of awesome shows for ya!!

Acoustic Tonight, Thursday, Jan 31, 9:30 pm: Bill Bell and I are playing a Garcia/Grisman-style set of drifting tumbleweed music at Brooklyn Fireproof, 119 Ingraham St at Porter (off of the Morgan stop of the L), Bushwick/Williamsburg. $5 gets you my show and true hipster cred!

This Saturday, Feb 2, at 11pm, the Ramblers reunite at The Living Room, one night only, 154 Ludlow St at Stanton! As some of you may know, the Living Room is shutting its doors after 10 years on Ludlow, and will reopen next spring, but to send off the old space, they asked us to put the band back together for one last show.  The Living Room has been a huge part of our development as a band since 2008, and so of course we said yes!!

This is a FREE show, and if you've never seen us at Living Room, you're in for a treat. They have a real-live vintage Hammond organ, and we promise it will be SMOKIN' by the time Scott Stein gets through with it. Plenty of room for dancing, lots of seats, great sound (clear, crisp and not too loud!). Come out and shake your moneymakers. We're on at 11 pm sharp, following our good friends NickCasey and right before the very talented Rocket and the Ghost.

Please come to this show if you can. We're excited to get back together for you!!!  Whatablast!!!

Hugs,

Miah

Well, I don't have to tell you that Hurricane Sandy has affected almost every aspect of life in my beloved town. In that spirit I am volunteering my time and energy to help those in need, specifically coordinating volunteer efforts for the borough of Queens at www.astoria.recovers.org. If you can help, please do!

My gigs for late October and early November have been rescheduled or canceled due to the storm. It's indeterminate when things will get back to normal. Check my gigs pages for details. Most notably my show at Rockwood with the Righteous Devils has been pushed back to November 26 at midnight, opening for the amazing Teddy Kumpel

The big news is that on Sunday, November 25, I'll be appearing on John Platt's "Sunday Breakfast" on 90.7, WFUV-FM. It's been a longtime dream of mine to be on this fantastic radio station which for many years has inspired me and turned me on to great stuff. I'm psyched.

So I'm gonna get back to trying to help clean up this awful mess that has befallen our city as best as I can.  Much love and thanks everyone for your wishes of support.

http://www.illinoistimes.com/Springfield/article-10391-shelley-miller-and-jeremiah-birnbaum.html

I'm pleased to share with you my latest interview with Peter Harris, of Indie Sounds NY, on my new record. http://indiesoundsny.typepad.com/indie_sounds_ny/2012/08/a-further-five-minutes-with-jeremiah-birnbaum.html

It is SO incredible to be talking and singing again after six weeks of silence. Things are working so much better than beforwe, and every day I get stronger.

My first show back in business will be my acoustic tour kickoff and record release in Chicago at Uncommon Ground, August 24, with my pal Shelley Miller. We're on the road in the midwest for a week following, and then I'm back in NYC with my electric band, The Righteous Devils, at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 on September 5. I'll do a formal NYC CD release later in the month. And you can purchase a download of the record at http://jeremiahbirnbaum.bandcamp.com right now!

That's it for now..excited to be back!!

Hi everyone. As I mentioned, I've been dealing with a vocal injury for some time. Two weeks ago, I had corrective surgery with Dr. Steven Zeitels at Harvard/Mass General. Dr. Zeitels literally wrote the book on this procedure, plus he worked with both Adele and Steven Tyler, so I feel like I'm in very good hands.

I'm sequestered in my friend's cabin in upstate New York on total vocal rest - no singing, talking--Not a peep. It's one heck of a challenge!

I've been writing, walking in the woods, and resting. The surgery was scary (these things always are) but I feel positive and very amped to get back in the swing of things.

With luck I'll be able to return to form immediately. I have lots of things I want to do in the next few months, including midwest and west coast tours among other adventures. Wish me luck!!

Hi all. Due to an injury to my vocal cords, I will be unable to sing for a short period of time. I'll still be playing plenty of guitar, and my sweet residency at ZirZamin (the new name of 90 West Houston) will continue, with special guests such as the incredible Laurie McClain, and songwriter showcases!

Please wish me lots of luck during this difficult time. I am assured by my doctors that I will make a complete recovery, and will be ready to resume touring in mid-summer. In August I'll be touring with my friend Shelley Miller, and come October through Thanksgiving I'll be touring the Northwest doing house concerts and other solo acoustic shows.  If you'd like me to play in your living room or in a venue in your town, please drop me a line!

Hey hey!  Great new residency for spring at a brand-new venue, 90 West Houston! Every Thursday at 8 til June. Also, I'll be returning to Rockwood Music Hall on Mayday (May 1) at midnight. Lastly, the Ramblers return to Mercury Lounge on Saturday, June 16, with the band Dastardly, from Chicago. Nice!

I'm also booking many spring and summer shows and house concerts across the country..if you'd like to have me in your neck of the woods, either at a traditional venue or in your living room, give a shout! -J
