NERFA, new record, NYC gigs, and house concerts!

Hey folks! After a fantastic run across the country, I'm pleased as punch to be back home in NY and attending my second Northeast Regional Folk Alliance conference this weekend. If you're upstate attending, I've attached my schedule below.

NEW ALBUM AND...a MOVIE!

Big news: with pal Neale Eckstein at FoxRun Studios, Chris Kelly and I just put down 11 basic tracks for (deep breath!) the NEW JB record, to be released next year!!! And even MORE big news - Mia Mikowicz, a very talented independent filmmaker, is making a documentary about my life and the process of getting this record to the next level!! WOW!

BACK IN NYC in NOV!

On Tuesday Nov 12, I will be performing at Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg.I've been playing at Pete's for almost 8 years - can you believe it?? It's a great venue with great drink specials, sandwiches, and NO COVER. Please come down and hang with me! 10 pm, 11/12/13, 709 Lorimer St (L or G to Lorimer), Brooklyn.

And on Saturday, Nov 23, I have the great honor of joining my friends Ina May Wool and Bev Grant at the El Taller Latino Americano! El Taller is a wonderful organization supporting multicultural art and social justice. Please come to this show and enjoy some diverse music in a warm, welcoming non-bar atmosphere! I will be playing with Bev and Ina and performing an opening set, too. 2710 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY.

I need gigs this fall and winter! You can help!

I'm staying regional through February and would love to perform private shows for you and your friends in NJ, NY, CT, MA and PA (and DC/MD/VA). This is the BEST way to support me and my career. House concerts are not only my favorite way to perform -- they also pay my rent! All you need is a living room and 10-30 pals - put out a few chairs and a bottle of wine, and watch the intimate beauty of the house concert unfold. We'll have a blast! Just write to me (booking AT jeremiahbirnbaum DOT com) with dates you might want to host a musical gathering, and I will work with you to create a successful, magical evening of song. Sound good? Let's make something fun happen!!

Best,

Festivals, touring and Club Passim!

What an incredibly fun and productive month I've had! I've written about seventeen songs, thanks to Timmy Riordan's Fearless Songwriting Week, in which I and other songwriting peers challenge each other to write a new piece every day for a week! I did this in July, and I did it again this past week. You can view my songs on my YouTube page.

Right now, I'm getting ready for a great weekend playing mandolin for my buddies Pesky J. Nixon at the Turtle Hill Folk Festival - we're playing the main stage (sharing the bill with such greats as John Gorka!) and also leading many workshops. It's an honor to be part of the PJN crew and I can't wait to spend all weekend jamming!!!

At the end of the month will be my first headlining show at the famed Club Passim in Cambridge, MA! Kara Kulpa and I will be playing a duo set on Monday, September 30. We're incredibly excited, and if you're in the Boston area (or know someone who is), please spread the word and help us pack the room!

If you're in or around Beltsville, MD, my good buddy Brad Cole and I are going to be playing a great house concert on October 4. Email me for details and reservations.

Lastly, I'm going to be going on tour with my pal Bethel Steele the last two weeks of October...I will post our final schedule shortly and am so excited to get back to the Midwest!!!

Last July Living Room Show this Weds, Club Passim, and daily songwriting this week!

Hello and hope you're enjoying this not-as-hot week. Whew!

The final July residency show is this Wednesday, 10 pm at the Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street in NYC. Chris Kelly will be on bass, and our feature artist is the lovely and talented Karyn Oliver, who's just released a fabulous new record. She'll also be joining us on harmonies. A few other guests may pop in, too. We're grateful to the Living Room for this amazing opportunity, and hope very much to return in August.

The second piece of news is I'm participating in Timmy Riordan's Fearless Songwriting Week, in which I and other songwriting peers challenge each other to write a new piece every day for a week! You can view my songs on my YouTube page. Two days down, five more to go!

Lastly, I'm proud to announce my first headlining show at the famed Club Passim in Cambridge, MA! Kara Kulpa and I will be playing a duo set on Monday, September 30. We're incredibly excited, and if you're in the Boston area (or know someone who is), please spread the word and help us pack the room!

Hope to see you this week. Thanks for all of your support!

Announcing..Living Room Residency!!

Howdy! I've just returned from the Kerrville Folk Festival and the People's Music Network Summer Gathering over the last two weeks...I've been playing guitar for 14 hours a day and am ready to folk-rock the heck out of NYC...and thus I'm awfully pleased to announce...

Every Wednesday this month at 10 pm, I'll be in residence at the Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street in NYC! These shows are free and will feature guest appearances from special guests every week. Since I've been given this really great opportunity, I want to utilize it to showcase many of my musical pals and their songs. Stay tuned for an announcement of the lineup. And of course my amazing acoustic band, featuring Chris Kelly and Karyn Oliver, will be there! Plus the very talented Scott Wolfson, who has the prettiest voice this side of Brian Wilson.

Now here's the important part. I'm gunning to make this a long-term residency, and the ONLY way I can make that happen is to pack the crap out of the place every week. Can you come? If you can come, can you bring a friend or two? And if you can't come, will you help me spread the word? I wasn't given a whole lot of lead time so I'm depending on grassroots promotion. I've wanted to be in residence at Living Room for a really long time, and I think that I can make this a great, solid weekly happening. But I can only do it with your help. Whatever you can do, I will be truly grateful! I've included a few videos and music links for you to share with your peeps below, too.

So now that my solicitation is done, I hope you are having a wonderful spring. And I hope to see you soon!

Love and light,

Jeremiah

The very next day, Sat April 13, I'm performing at a great house concert series: Cozy Cabin Concerts in Watchung, NJ. This is going to be a very special house concert - email me for details or go here: https://www.facebook.com/CozyCabinConcerts

On Thursday April 18, I will be performing with Scott Wolfson and Other Heroes at thge Hard Luck Cafe in Huntington, NY: http://www.scottwolfson.com

Living Room Thursday, back on the charts, and the Devils return to Spike Hill

Hey everyone! I'm recently returned from a great time at the Folk Alliance Conference up in Toronto, where I made many new pals and solidified some lovely musical friendships. I've been really inspired by all this great music I'm exposed to and hope to be ready for a new studio recording this summer. So! My next New York show is at the Living Room this Thursday, March 7, at 7 pm sharp. There's word I might have some industry folk in the audience, so it would be fabulous if you could help me fill every seat!!

I'll be joined by my friends Karyn Oliver and Chris Kelly, and I'll be debuting one or two brand-new songs. It's most likely my final show at the Living Room, which is closing at the end of the month. (They will reopen sometime this year, but they're not sure when.) The Living Room is located at 154 Ludlow Street, just down the street from Katz's Deli (how convenient!!). And did I mention it's free? (The show, not Katz's.)

Lastly, I am tickled pink to be back on the Roots Music Reports Charts this week alongside my friends Brad Cole and Oli Rockberger! Scroll to the bottom to see our names alongside Pete Seeger, Derek and the Dominoes, and other luminaries... https://www.rootsmusicreport.com/index.php?page=statechart&state=NY

That's about it for now. Lots of house concerts and benefit shows coming up. Plus a return to Spike Hill for the Righteous Devils next week, March 13 at 11pm. Rock!

Folk Alliance Schedule, Rockwood w' Ben Rabb and Righteous Devils

Hi y'all! Couple o' pieces of news:

*Folk Alliance up in Toronto is just a few weeks away. I'll be driving up with my pal Jesse Terry, and we're gonna hang with many great friends from the folk scene near and far. If you are attending, I hope to spend some time with ya! Let me know where you're hanging, too. I posted my Folk Alliance schedule below.

*There's a bunch of recent videos from my record release on my YouTube page. Also, I performed some songs live in Studio A at WFUV-FM at the end of 2012, for the amazing John Platt - here's a link to those as well!!

*If you're in New York this weekend, I am performing TWICE at Rockwood Music Hall this Sunday, Feb 10 - at 3pm in Rockwood 1, playing guitar with my pal Ben Rabb, and then at 11:30 pm at Rockwood 2, it's an Anti-Grammy Party with the Righteous Devils, my blatantly uncommercial power-rock-trio.

The Rockwood(s) are at 196 Allen Street, just south of Houston. Both are FREE! Do it!

No matter what, hope to see ya and play for ya soon. I'm going to be doing a bunch of house concerts this spring, too - so make sure you reach out if you'd like a certain handsome troubadour gracing your living room!

Ramblers reunion, D'Addario endorsement, and more!

Woohoo! I just became an official D'Addario artist! D'Addario makes the BEST strings, and I've been using them since I was ten (no joke!!). It's a longtime dream of mine...I couldn't be more amped!!

I'll be going up to Canada in a few weeks to attend Folk Alliance, so I'm hoping more good stuff will come from that...at the very least, I'll be jamming with many of my friends and exploring Maple leaf country...stay in touch for my showcase schedule, which I'll post later in the week.

Ok! Now that the news is done, here's a couple of awesome shows for ya!!

Acoustic Tonight, Thursday, Jan 31, 9:30 pm: Bill Bell and I are playing a Garcia/Grisman-style set of drifting tumbleweed music at Brooklyn Fireproof, 119 Ingraham St at Porter (off of the Morgan stop of the L), Bushwick/Williamsburg. $5 gets you my show and true hipster cred!

This Saturday, Feb 2, at 11pm, the Ramblers reunite at The Living Room, one night only, 154 Ludlow St at Stanton! As some of you may know, the Living Room is shutting its doors after 10 years on Ludlow, and will reopen next spring, but to send off the old space, they asked us to put the band back together for one last show. The Living Room has been a huge part of our development as a band since 2008, and so of course we said yes!!

This is a FREE show, and if you've never seen us at Living Room, you're in for a treat. They have a real-live vintage Hammond organ, and we promise it will be SMOKIN' by the time Scott Stein gets through with it. Plenty of room for dancing, lots of seats, great sound (clear, crisp and not too loud!). Come out and shake your moneymakers. We're on at 11 pm sharp, following our good friends NickCasey and right before the very talented Rocket and the Ghost.

Please come to this show if you can. We're excited to get back together for you!!! Whatablast!!!

Hugs,

Miah

Sandy, NYC gigs and the radio

Well, I don't have to tell you that Hurricane Sandy has affected almost every aspect of life in my beloved town. In that spirit I am volunteering my time and energy to help those in need, specifically coordinating volunteer efforts for the borough of Queens at www.astoria.recovers.org. If you can help, please do!

My gigs for late October and early November have been rescheduled or canceled due to the storm. It's indeterminate when things will get back to normal. Check my gigs pages for details. Most notably my show at Rockwood with the Righteous Devils has been pushed back to November 26 at midnight, opening for the amazing Teddy Kumpel

The big news is that on Sunday, November 25, I'll be appearing on John Platt's "Sunday Breakfast" on 90.7, WFUV-FM. It's been a longtime dream of mine to be on this fantastic radio station which for many years has inspired me and turned me on to great stuff. I'm psyched.

So I'm gonna get back to trying to help clean up this awful mess that has befallen our city as best as I can. Much love and thanks everyone for your wishes of support.

Healed! And going on tour!

It is SO incredible to be talking and singing again after six weeks of silence. Things are working so much better than beforwe, and every day I get stronger.

My first show back in business will be my acoustic tour kickoff and record release in Chicago at Uncommon Ground, August 24, with my pal Shelley Miller. We're on the road in the midwest for a week following, and then I'm back in NYC with my electric band, The Righteous Devils, at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 on September 5. I'll do a formal NYC CD release later in the month. And you can purchase a download of the record at http://jeremiahbirnbaum.bandcamp.com right now!

That's it for now..excited to be back!!

Getting stronger...

Hi everyone. As I mentioned, I've been dealing with a vocal injury for some time. Two weeks ago, I had corrective surgery with Dr. Steven Zeitels at Harvard/Mass General. Dr. Zeitels literally wrote the book on this procedure, plus he worked with both Adele and Steven Tyler, so I feel like I'm in very good hands.

I'm sequestered in my friend's cabin in upstate New York on total vocal rest - no singing, talking--Not a peep. It's one heck of a challenge!

I've been writing, walking in the woods, and resting. The surgery was scary (these things always are) but I feel positive and very amped to get back in the swing of things.

With luck I'll be able to return to form immediately. I have lots of things I want to do in the next few months, including midwest and west coast tours among other adventures. Wish me luck!!

Going further.

Hi all. Due to an injury to my vocal cords, I will be unable to sing for a short period of time. I'll still be playing plenty of guitar, and my sweet residency at ZirZamin (the new name of 90 West Houston) will continue, with special guests such as the incredible Laurie McClain, and songwriter showcases!

Please wish me lots of luck during this difficult time. I am assured by my doctors that I will make a complete recovery, and will be ready to resume touring in mid-summer. In August I'll be touring with my friend Shelley Miller, and come October through Thanksgiving I'll be touring the Northwest doing house concerts and other solo acoustic shows. If you'd like me to play in your living room or in a venue in your town, please drop me a line!

Spring beckons!

Hey hey! Great new residency for spring at a brand-new venue, 90 West Houston! Every Thursday at 8 til June. Also, I'll be returning to Rockwood Music Hall on Mayday (May 1) at midnight. Lastly, the Ramblers return to Mercury Lounge on Saturday, June 16, with the band Dastardly, from Chicago. Nice!

I'm also booking many spring and summer shows and house concerts across the country..if you'd like to have me in your neck of the woods, either at a traditional venue or in your living room, give a shout! -J
